SAM Goes Green

Commitment to Sustainability

At all three locations—the Seattle Art Museum Downtown, the Seattle Asian Art Museum and the Olympic Sculpture Park—SAM is committed to taking action to protect our environment and to finding creative ways to reduce our ecological footprint.

To accomplish these goals, the Seattle Art Museum has:

Joined the City of Seattle’s Seattle Climate Partnership and Seattle Climate Action Now. Through these partnerships, SAM is working to assess and lower our carbon footprint, and to provide information to SAM visitors to help them reduce their personal climate footprints.
Endorsed the Cascade Agenda, a program of Cascade Land Conservancy.
Formed the SAM Goes Green Team to address environmental sustainability in SAM's administrative and operational business practices.
Set and met environmental restoration goals for the design and operation of the Olympic Sculpture Park.
Created menus of local and organic food at TASTE Restaurant and Cafés. Food scraps are composted. Public composting is available at the TASTE Café at the Olympic Sculpture Park.
Hired an environmental steward to oversee the museum’s environmental initiatives.

Use alternative transportation when you visit all three SAM locations; bus information is available from King County Metro.
Enjoy local and organic produce when you dine at TASTE Restaurant or Cafés.
