Psatmtik-sa-neith ("Psammetichus the son of Neith")

Although this high official was named after the pharaoh Psammetichus I or II, he supported the rebel Amasis (570–526 b.c.) against Psammetichus II’s son, King Apries (589–570 b.c.). The inscriptions on his statue allude to civil strife within Sais (site of the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty royal residence) and suggest that Psatmtik-sa-Neith pacified the city for Amasis. Perhaps in gratitude, Amasis bestowed upon Psatmtik-sa-Neith the exalted rank of Chancellor of the King of Lower Egypt.
