KhafreOld Kingdom (27002190 b.c.) Dynasty IV (25202494 b.c.) One of the most magnificent pieces of statuary from ancient Egypt is on display in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It is a life-size diorite piece depicting the pharaoh Khafre (Chephren to the Greeks), which was found in Khafres Valley Temple. The Valley Temple was a part of the funerary complex surrounding the kings pyramid. Khafre chose to build his pyramid, the second largest structure at Giza, in the shadow of the Great Pyramid of Khufu (his father). |
