Menkaure

Old Kingdom (2700–2190 b.c.)

Dynasty IV (2490–2472 b.c.)

The Greek historians (who called this king Mycerinus), relying on legends, stated that Menkaure was a pious king. He was the builder of the third pyramid at Giza, which is considerably smaller than his father’s and grandfather’s. Dr. Zahi Hawass has recently been conducting excavation and restoration work at this pyramid and has found important artifacts in the debris surrounding the structure. Egypt is far from having yielded all her secrets.
