BubastisLocated in the eastern Nile Delta in northern Egypt, Bubastis was the center for the
worship of the cat goddess Bastet,
for whom it was named. It was also the capital of Egypt during the Twenty-second Dynasty,
when Egypt was under Libyan rule. On exhibit is the Jubilee
Relief of Osorkon II (see cat. no. 51), found in front of the temple of
Bastet at Bubastis. The relief depicts Osorkon II, a Twenty-second Dynasty ruler, and
Bastet. |
