Dra Abu el-NagaDra Abu el-Naga, a district in west Thebes, contains 114 rock tombs of officials as well as 17 Dynasty rulers. The University of Pennsylvania Museums 1921 to 1923 excavation at Dra Abu el-Naga, focused primarily on excavating tombs. Another museum expedition in 1967 at Dra Abu el-Naga focused on tomb conservation and epigraphy, the study of deciphering inscriptions. The University of Pennsylvania Museum was also part of the excavations at the Theban location of Malkata. At Malkata, from 1971 to 1977, the Museum excavated the palace residence and found the Malkata harbor. On exhibit from Thebes are depictions of deities (see cat. nos. 8, 10, 14, 19),
