Demotic

Demotic is a cursive style of writing that the Ancient Egyptians used to write business or government documents after 750 b.c. The word demotic is Greek for popular or in common use. Demotic script appeared on the Rosetta Stone along with Greek and hieroglyphs. Eventually demotic was replaced by the Greek language in the Roman period. As evidenced by the Demotic Stela on display in the exhibition, demotic was also employed in the late period on funerary stelae.
