The Djed Pillar is a hieroglyphic symbol that denotes stability. Ancient symbols have complex meanings—this one is believed to represent two bound sheaves of grain, or sheaves of grain tied to a pillar. It may also represent the backbone of Osiris, the god of the dead. |
