Past Exhibitions
The Seattle Art Museum celebrates its rich heritage of Japanese art with magnificent painting, sculpture, lacquerware, textiles, ceramics, and prints dating from 1000 to 2000 A.D. from the museum’s permanent collection and private collections in Seattle. Among the several recent acquisitions currently on view is a superb calligraphy by Nukina Kaioku (1778–1863), who was a respected scholar in Kyoto and one of the greatest calligraphers of the late Edo period.
