Alinari
Founded in 1852 in Florence, Italy, Alinari is the world’s oldest photographic firm with an archive of over 260,000 pictures. To use the archives, you must register. The main site also provides an educational photo library and a teaching aid in Italian.
New York Public Library
The "Best of the Web" section of the public library's website includes links to a variety of resources about photography. These are broken down by related subjects including museums, organizations and schools.
George Eastman House
Online photography collection of the holdings of the George Eastman House, which provides digital images and browsing resources, including the collection indexed by photographer. This site is being converted to a new online system powered by Cortex 3 and is currently in public beta testing.
Smithsonian American Art Museum
The museum's photograph archives include more than a half-million negatives, slides and photographs. Many of the collections are available for viewing online. You can also search “photography” under Select Artwork Type on the Search Collections page.
