Types of Programs

Guided Tours

Guided tours are inquiry-based experiences for K–12 students led by trained guides (docents). Most programs include a hands-on art studio workshop. Refer to individual program descriptions for details as programs vary by site, grade level and time of year offered. Tours and art studio workshops are aligned with the Washington state Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) and can be tailored to specific curriculum standards.

Visit on Your Own (Self-Guided Visits)

Customize your museum experience by leading your own tour. We recommend dividing your class into small, chaperone-led groups. We encourage teachers to plan their path through the galleries in advance of their visit. Learn how to plan self-guided visits to SAM at one of our upcoming Educator Programs.
