Arts of Asia: Exploring Materials, Design and Motif

Grades 2–12: 2-hour program (tour + art workshop)
Tour: Explore SAM's diverse collection of Asian art through writing and discussion. Focus on common materials and motifs in both historical and contemporary works of art from Japan, Korea, China, India and Central Asia.
Art Workshop: Since ancient times, the Chinese have mastered division of labor, which enabled them to fabricate complex objects and in great quantity. Inspired by this ancient modular form of creation, students will divide into small groups with specialized tasks. Together they will undertake the group creation of a harmonious piece of artwork.
