Educational Partnerships
SAM is proud to partner with local arts and culture organizations to add to the rich array of programming offered by the museum’s Education + Public Programs Division. Upcoming programs with our educational partners include: VTS Professional Development Institute 2June 23–26, 2008 The VTS Professional Development Institute 2 (PDI-2) is the second session of a three-part program created by Visual Understanding in Education (VUE) that enables educators to become Visual Thinking Strategy (VTS) trainers. VTS is a student-centered, research-based teaching method and curriculum that uses art to build the capacity to observe, think, listen and communicate. Institute participants gain practical experience in facilitating VTS. This program includes discussions of teaching practice, research data, theoretical writing, and learning assessment. Upon completion, trainers are equipped to train teachers and/or museum docents to use VTS. Go to the VTS website for more information. Arts ImpactArts Impact provides comprehensive professional development in the arts to elementary classroom teachers in Pierce and King Counties. Using artwork from the Seattle Art Museum and other cultural institutions, participants practice introducing an art concept using an object–based resource. Teachers then bring their students to the museum for guided tours that reinforce the concepts students are learning in the classroom. Learn more about Arts Impact.
