The Collection

An integral part of the museum, the art councils provide crucial support for educational programs, acquisitions, exhibitions and publications.

Over 30,000 Seattle Art Museum members share an interest and pride in the museum's exhibitions, special events, educational programs and reputation as the area's leading arts institution. Of these members, more than 800 individuals offer further support by participating in one or more of SAM's art councils. The councils support the museum by offering educational programs and special events to enhance the quality of arts programming in the Northwest.

Council members enjoy:

  • lectures
  • workshops
  • gallery talks
  • visits to public and private collections
  • domestic and international travel with curators
  • fundraising events
  • music and dance performances

Volunteer committees of council members work closely with museum staff to plan events and programs.
All council members are invited to become involved in these committees.
