Design Architect, Allied Works Architecture

Brad Cloepfil founded Allied Works Architecture in 1994 in his native Portland, Oregon, after more than a decade of work with firms in Los Angeles; Lugano, Switzerland and New York City. First with the Sitings Project (conceptual designs for five distinct sites across the Pacific Northwest) and then with the Wieden+Kennedy headquarters (adaptive re-use of an historic warehouse in Portland, completed 2000), Allied Works quickly established a strong reputation among art and design professionals. With Cloepfil’s first major free-standing public building, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2003), Allied Works began to gain attention from the wider press and public.

Allied Works has grown into a firm of 37 architects and support staff with offices in Portland and New York City. Current projects include the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Museum of Arts & Design (New York), Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Dallas) and a small number of significant residences.

Allied Works was recently selected to design the new Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, Colorado. The approximately 30,000 sq. ft. museum will house the legendary artist’s 2,400 works, many of which have never been publicly exhibited.

LMN Architects of Seattle played an important role in SAM’s downtown expansion, working closely with the design team, construction team and the museum to develop inspired interior spaces for art and the public.

Founded in 1979 by architects George Loschky, Judsen Marquardt and John Nesholm, LMN believes that architecture must strengthen the relationship between artists and their audiences and create artistic settings for the entire community to enjoy. The firm has developed a diverse portfolio that includes public assembly, urban design, retail, commercial, corporate, education, industrial, mixed-use, and transportation projects. LMN has designed more than 120 projects in 30 states and 6 foreign countries and has evolved into one of the largest firms in the Pacific Northwest.
