How is art a reflection of time, place, and culture? How can contemporary art be used inspire and empower student voices? This three-day intensive institute at Seattle Art Museum and Olympic Sculpture Park examines how to connect contemporary art to your students’ lives and learning.
From Denzil Hurley’s Disclosures to Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms, contemporary art reflects an artist’s time and perspective while transporting the viewer. Hear artist and educator Denzil Hurley deliver the keynote on Wednesday, work with local experts including artist Kenji Stoll, and explore ways to incorporate contemporary art to your social studies, language arts, and science curricula. Through interactive activities and close-looking exercises, SAM's Summer Institute for Educators will inspire and refresh participants for a new year of teaching.
Please note Thursday August 3 will begin at 9 am and end at 3 pm, allowing participants special access to experience Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors.
I always find the workshops–especially the Summer Institute–to be an opportunity to learn new things and to rejuvenate myself and my teachers.
