Thelma Schoonmaker Presents Two Rare Michael Powell Films
Museum of History and Industry, McEachern Auditorium

Thelm Schoonmaker, wife of legendary British director Michael Powell (1905–90), and Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning editor, will discuss Powell's artistry and screen two of his rare films. In the restored, British version of Gone to Earth (1950, showing February 13), spirited nineteenth-century Shropshire lass Jennifer Jones finds love sacred (Cyril Cusack) and profane (David Farrar). The superb, celebrated actress Helen Mirren (The Queen) began her career in Powell's Age of Consent (1969, showing February 14), in which disillusioned painter James Mason discovers the possibility of artistic and personal renewal when he meets child-of-nature Mirren on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Each program is 150 min.
