SAM Talks
This two-day symposium brings together six art historians from the United States, Holland and Japan for a dialogue about Japanese art’s first encounters with the Western world. Ron Toby, professor of Japanese history at the University of Illinois, will present the keynote address. Toby is an expert on non-Japanese art that existed in Japan during the pre-modern period and on Japanese history, focusing on contact and exchange with the Western world. Pivotal Perspectives is a timely and innovative forum that addresses pressing issues in art and society. Bringing together some of the most compelling thinkers on a given cultural subject, Pivotal Perspectives is at once critical and engaging. Participants include artists and designers, critics, curators, and scholars, among others.
Generous support for the symposium provided by Richard and Peggy Danziger and Uwajimaya, Inc. In-kind support generously provided by Penfolds Wines and TalkingRain Beverage Co. Check out SAM on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace
