Deep End: A Lost Film Found

Thirty-seven years ago, Jerzy Skolimowski’s Deep End was the most exciting, most discussed film going, impressing everyone from critics Pauline Kael and David Thomson to young art student David Lynch. Then the movie vanished for decades. We are proud to present the Seattle premiere of a brand-new 35 mm print.

Teenager Mike (John Moulder-Brown) gets a job at a London bathhouse/swimming pool and becomes infatuated with attendant Susan (Jane Asher). She’s having a romance with a swimming instructor (Karl Michael Vogler), but Mike won’t be deterred. He pursues his love in a headlong rush of quirky characters and Swinging London sights and sounds. Skolimowski gives us stunning images and surprises around every corner; an exhilarated David Thomson wrote, “Deep End is funny, touching, sexy, surreal and tragic—all at once.” With Diana Dors. Music by Cat Stevens. In color, 35 mm, 90 min.
