Contemporary artist Titus Kaphar’s work provides an important opportunity for students to examine the intersections between art, history, identity and race. In conjunction with the exhibition Titus Kaphar: History in the Making at SAM Downtown, Kaphar will discuss how his work revisits and comments on the ways United States and European history is shown, referenced, taught, subscribed to and manufactured. The artist’s work will allow you and your students to ask challenging questions about this nation’s complicated history and the way we envision it. Recommended for high school teachers. Workshop participants receive teaching materials, four Washington State Clock Hours and lunch.
