Creatively Speaking: The Artist's Point of View
Stan Greene (Eyi:ye)
December 5, 2008
7–8 pm
Nordstrom Lecture Hall

In the years between the 1920s and 1970s, Coast Salish art was "sleeping," in the words of renowned artist Stan Greene. At a time when northern Northwest Coast styles dominated the public scene, Greene steadfastly studied Salish art in museums in order to reconnect with the unique aesthetics of his ancestors. In this lecture, Greene will discuss his work and the important roles that artists assume as carriers of culture.

The Creatively Speaking series provides a forum for artists to explain the philosophies underlying their work and for audiences to ask the questions they rarely have a chance to ask.
