SAM Tours
My Favorite Things brings some of the most opinionated and fascinating SAM staff, community leaders, artists and cultural figures into the galleries to discuss specific works of art that appeal to them. This week SAM offers a tour of Edward Hopper's Women with Alys Eve Weinbaum, associate professor of modern and contemporary literature and culture and an adjunct associate professor of women’s studies at the University of Washington. Weinbaum is a founding member of the "Modern Girl Around the World Research Group" and is author or co-author of several books, including The Modern Girl Around the World: Consumption, Modernity, and Globalization. Her tour will focus on Hopper's portrayal of the so-called modern girl, address issues surrounding women's entry into public spaces in the 1920s, and explore the politics of personal style in the period.
Free with museum admission. Tours meet at the exhibition entrance on the Third Floor. Check out SAM on Twitter and
