Projecting Cultures: Native Voices and the Moving Image Fry Bread Babes and Princess Angeline January 10, 2009 10:30 am–noon Plestcheeff Auditorium

Offered in conjunction with S’abadeb—The Gifts: Pacific Coast Salish Art and Artists, this two-day Native film showcase explores the cross-pollination between Native peoples and traditions and contemporary cultures. This screening features the documentaries Fry Bread Babes and Princess Angeline.

Fry Bread Babes (2008) examines the relationships between body image, mass media and identity in Native American culture from the perspectives of six women. Directed by Steffany Suttle. DVD, color, 30 min.

In Princess Angeline (2004), the story of the Duwamish and their unrecognized tribal status is explored through the life of Chief Seattle's daughter, one of the few Duwamish people left in Seattle by the 1890s. Directed by Sandra Osawa. DVD, color, 42 min.
