Projecting Cultures: Native Voices and the Moving Image Where I'm From and March Point January 10, 2009 1–2:30 pm Plestcheeff Auditorium

Offered in conjunction with S’abadeb—The Gifts: Pacific Coast Salish Art and Artists, this two-day Native film showcase explores the cross-pollination between Native peoples and traditions and contemporary cultures. This screening features films created by and about teens, including the short film Where I'm From and the feature-length March Point.

Created during a youth media workshop hosted by SAM and Native Lens in October and November 2008, Where I'm From explores concepts of home and community from the perspective of teenagers. DVD, color, 10 min.

Cody, Nick and Travis, three teens from the Swinomish Indian Tribe, wanted to make a gangster movie or a rap video. But instead they were asked to investigate the impact of two oil refineries on their tribal community. March Point (2008) follows their journey as they come to understand themselves, the environment and the threat their people face. Color, 60 min.
