Creatively Speaking: The Artist's Point of View
Corin Hewitt and Titus Kaphar
April 3, 2009
6:30–8 pm
Plestcheeff Auditorium

Celebrate the opening of solo installations by two emerging voices in American contemporary art. Often working in a public studio setting, Corin Hewitt physically manipulates nontraditional art materials to create compositions that he photographs. Titus Kaphar recreates American and European portrait paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries and recasts them to create a dialogue between race, art and representation.

The Creatively Speaking series provides a forum for artists to explain the philosophies underlying their work and for audiences to ask the questions they rarely have a chance to ask.

Free with museum admission. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
