SAM Tours
My Favorite Things tours bring some of the most opinionated and fascinating artists, cultural producers and community figures into the galleries to discuss their favorite works of art. This week SAM offers a tour of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: American Art from the Yale University Art Gallery with Susan P. Casteras, professor of American and British art history at the University of Washington. For many years Casteras served as Curator of Paintings at the Yale Center for British Art, where she organized numerous exhibitions. She has written dozens of articles, essays, reviews and books on 19th-century British art, and she is currently working on a book about Victorian religious painting. Professor Casteras's tour will focus on two of her favorite works in the exhibition: John Singleton Copley's portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Smith from 1769.
Free with museum admission. Tour meets in the Fourth Floor galleries at the exhibition entrance. Check out SAM on Twitter and
