First Friday Lecture Target Practice: Painting Under Attack 1949–78 June 5, 2009 11 am–noon Plestcheeff Auditorium

Michael Darling, SAM's Jon & Mary Shirley Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, presents this historical survey of post–World War II artworks that question the conventions of painting. The special exhibition Target Practice: Painting Under Attack 1949–78 explores physical violations, pictorial iconoclasm, and the use of mythology and composition by a series of modern painters.
