SAM Performs
This site-specific dance event, created by Charlene Curtiss of Light Motion and Joanne Petroff and Debbie Gilbert of Whistlestop Dance Co., honors the beauty of the Olympic Sculpture Park and highlights its accessibility. Following a lecture demonstration in the PACCAR Pavilion to introduce the project, wheelchair and standup dancers, working in integrated pairs and accompanied by musicians Eric Chappelle and Ela Lamblin, will dance their way through the Olympic Sculpture Park using various works of art for inspiration. Taking the Pulse features a wide range of styles, genres and disciplines. Performances are presented at all three SAM locations and are often accompanied by discussions among artistic collaborators.
Free and open to the public. Registration required if planning to attend. This project is supported, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, 4Culture Site Specific Performance Network, and Ida’s Fund.
