At this special screening, offered in conjunction with the exhibition Andrew Wyeth: Remembrance, painter and filmmaker Bo Bartlett introduces the documentary that he made in 1991 at the invitation of Betsy Wyeth.

Over the course of the filming of this documentary, Bartlett became one of the artist’s closest friends and confidantes. He was the rare outsider allowed into Andrew Wyeth’s studio to watch the artist at work. The film’s intimate view of Wyeth reveals not just their close friendship but the spiritual connection that the two painters formed through their long association.

Bartlett’s film spans 60 years of Wyeth’s career, incorporating works of art into a collage of personal photographs; home movies of the artist with his famous illustrator father, N.C. Wyeth; and rare footage of Andrew speaking frankly about his life, his family and his art. The film also includes the first interview ever granted by Wyeth’s famed model, Helga Testorf.

Mr. Bartlett will introduce the film and answer questions afterward in a conversation with Patricia Junker, the museum’s Ann M. Barwick Curator of American Art.
