Calder: A Balancing Act

Michael Darling, Jon & Mary Shirley Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, discusses Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act, showing the range of the artist's work from 1927 through the mid-70s, including miniature maquettes, works on paper, jewelry and monumental sculptures and mobiles. Many of the items are from private collections and have been rarely viewed by the public.

Attendees are invited to remain after the program and enjoy the annual holiday coffee, tea and cookies event sponsored by the SAM Volunteer Association.

Learn more about SAM’s collections and exhibitions from curators and local experts. These morning lectures are scheduled on the first Friday of every month, when seniors age 62 and over are admitted to SAM for free.
