First Friday Lecture Michelangelo's Italy with Gene Openshaw January 8, 2010 11 am–noon Plestcheeff Auditorium

Michelangelo was both prolific and well traveled. This hour-long slide show by Gene Openshaw traces the artist's life, work and travels, visiting the Italian cities where he created his masterpieces. You may be surprised to find that the Italy of today is just as culturally rich as it was in the days of Michelangelo.

Gene Openshaw is a writer, composer, tour guide and lecturer on art and history. He has co-authored several books in the Rick Steves series, including Europe 101: History and Art for the Traveler.

These morning lectures are scheduled on the first Friday of every month, when seniors age 62 and over are admitted to SAM for free. Because SAM is closed on January 1, 2010 in recognition of New Year's Day, seniors will be admitted free on Friday, January 8 instead.
