SAM Tours
My Favorite Things tours bring some of the most opinionated and fascinating artists, cultural producers and community figures into the galleries to discuss their favorite works of art. This week SAM offers a tour of Andrew Wyeth: Remembrance led by Gary Faigin, who has worked as a painter, educator and art critic for almost 30 years. He and Pamela Belyea co-founded Seattle’s Gage Academy of Art, now celebrating its 20th anniversary. He has broadcast more than 100 art reviews on Seattle's NPR affiliate KUOW-FM. Faigin has led annual art tours to Europe and the East Coast since 1995, and his paintings have been featured in a dozen one-man exhibitions, including two museum shows. Faigin will look at the Andrew Wyeth exhibition from the point of view of a fellow realist painter. How "real" is Wyeth’s realism? What technical devices does he use to achieve his results, and what hidden narratives are at work? What does his work tell us about the artist as a person, as well as a painter?
Free with museum admission. Tours meet at the entrance to Andrew Wyeth: Remembrance. Check out SAM on Twitter and
