SAM Talks
Join Michael Darling, SAM’s Jon & Mary Shirley Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, in the studio as he discusses Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act. From miniature maquettes, works on paper and jewelry to monumental sculptures and one of the artist’s largest mobiles, this exhibition offers viewers a sense of the range of Alexander Calder’s work from 1927 through the mid-1970s. More than forty original works of art—many of them from Jon and Mary Shirley's extensive collection, which is rarely seen by the public—trace the development and amazing creativity of this American master sculptor. Back by popular demand, the SAM in the Studio series features a presentation by a SAM curator on a current or upcoming exhibition, followed by a discussion with the audience. Enjoy $3 glasses of house wine (proceeds benefit SAM) and complimentary hors d’oeuvres selected from the menu of BOKA Kitchen + Bar. All of this takes place within the intimate setting of Studio 1000 at Hotel 1000, located at 1000 First Avenue in downtown Seattle.
Free and open to the public. For more information, call 206. 957.1000. Check out SAM on Twitter and
