SAM Word Kevin Craft with Johnny Horton, Richard Kenney and Sierra Nelson January 21, 2010 7:30–8:30 pm South Hall

In conjunction with Michelangelo Public and Private, Kevin Craft curates an evening of readings featuring poets Johnny Horton, Richard Kenney and Sierra Nelson. Craft is the editor of Mare Nostrum, an annual anthology of writing about classical civilizations of the Mediterranean.

Johnny Horton has published poems in Notre Dame Review, The Laurel Review, Willow Springs and other magazines. His awards include a Washington Artist Trust GAP grant and residency fellowships from The Espy Foundation, Casa Libre, The Ragdale Foundation and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Richard Kenney teaches poetry at the University of Washington. For a number of years he has led the UW Creative Writing Summer Seminar in Rome. A MacArthur and Lannan Literary Fellow, he has published four books of poetry, most recently The One-Strand River (Knopf, 2008).

Sierra Nelson is a co-founder of the Seattle-based literary performance art groups The Typing Explosion and the Vis-à-Vis Society. Her poems can be found in Forklift Ohio, Thermos, The Black Boot, Tin House, Diagram and other locations.

Featuring everyone from spoken word poets to literary figures, these evenings of words as art are at once intimate and engaging.
