SAM Tours
My Favorite Things tours bring some of the most opinionated and fascinating artists, cultural producers and community figures into the galleries to discuss their favorite works of art. This week SAM offers a tour of Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act with Shayla Alarie, a graduate student in art history at the University of Washington. Calder transforms actual space and imbues it with a sense of play that necessitates the presence of a viewer. In this tour, Alarie will explore the relationship between the art and the viewer, and how one does not exist without the other. The viewer and the art exist in the same space without barriers (real or illusory) and are brought together by Calder in a synthesis of whimsy, play and imagination. Free with museum admission. Tour meets at the entrance of Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act.
