The Red Shoes (1948). Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring. 35 mm, color, 133 min.

Martin Scorsese’s triple-Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker, wife of legendary British director Michael Powell (1905–90), presents the Seattle premiere of the UCLA restoration of The Red Shoes, the masterpiece of dance, romance and a ballerina’s bewitched shoes.

The previous evening Schoonmaker shows the beguiling
I Know Where I’m Going!, in which a hyper-ambitious London woman is enchanted by a remote Scottish village. Schoonmaker will discuss Powell’s artistry at both screenings.
