Seattle-based artist Scott Fife builds intricate portrait sculptures of pop culture icons using materials such as cardboard, screws, masking tape and glue. Participants in this workshop will work with the artist, using some of these same everyday materials, simple techniques and low-tech tools to create their own piece, perhaps their avatar.
SAMís summer exhibitions Kurt and love fear pleasure lust pain glamour death—Andy Warhol Media Works consider identity, celebrity and the icon through a range of works and mediums. This series of three workshops at the Olympic Sculpture Park and SAM Downtown uses the exhibitions as a starting point to explore unconventional approaches to portraiture and self-portraiture with three Seattle-based artists featured in Kurt.
