Kurt and Courtney (Nick Broomfield, 1998). Digital projection, 95 min. In conjunction with Kurt, SAM Films will highlight a selection of documentaries and films that chronicle Kurt Cobain’s career and the grunge phenomenon in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. In the emotionally fraught days following Cobain’s death, BBC filmmaker Nick Broomfield investigates allegations that sinister forces were involved in the icon’s apparent suicide. Kurt and Courtney’s relatives, friends and former lovers provide a vivid portrait of the couple, and the film climaxes as Broomfield’s camera ambushes an evasive, intoxicated Courtney at a Hollywood ACLU gala.
