Meet the Modernists of India and China
The Older You Are, The Better You Paint: Qi Baishi (1863–1957)
August 10, 2010
7–8:30 pm
Stimson Auditorium

In the four-lecture series "Four Individuals, Four Modernities in Chinese Painting," Ben Wang of the China Institute in New York City discusses the work of four scholar-painters who excelled at the Three Perfections—painting, poetry and calligraphy.

This lecture is about Qi Baishi (1863–1957). The three other lectures by Ben Wang are Poet, Prince, Painter and Monk: Ba Da Shan Ren (1626–1705) on August 3; Eccentric of Yangzhou: Jin Nong (1687–1764) on August 5; and Dispossessed Imperial Prince and Painter: Pu Ru (1896–1963) on August 12.

Interest in modern art of India and China just keeps growing! Here’s a rare opportunity to get to know the paintings of seven individual groundbreaking artists, from two exceptional speakers.
