Jack Straw Productions curates an evening of readings in response to works on view in Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. This month's reading features Denise Calvetti Michaels, Esther Altshul Helfgott and Tara Roth.

Esther Altshul Helfgott is a non-fiction writer, poet and teacher with a Ph.D. in history from the University of Washington. Her work appears in Maggid: A Journal of Jewish Literature, DRASH, American Imago: Psychoanalysis and the Human Sciences, HistoryLink, The American Psychoanalyst, and other journals. As a 2010 Jack Straw writer, Esther expanded her poem Fragments from an Alzheimer’s Journey into a chapbook, shared her work with Alzheimer’s associations, and taught a group of 9–11 year olds for the non-profit writing center, 826 Seattle.

Denise Calvetti Michaels writes poetry and memoir and has appeared in many publications, including San Diego City Works Press, Crosscurrents Humanities Journal, Paterson Literary Review, Literary Mama, Voices in Wartime, Poets Against the War, and King County Poetry on Buses. As a 2010 Jack Straw Writer, Denise is writing about leaving home as first in her family to attend college. She teaches at Cascadia Community College in Bothell.

Tara Roth is a musician and writer who is originally from the Chicago area and now lives in Seattle. She has played, recorded, and performed in various projects with local musicians, including the duo The Apostrophes, a current project with her husband. She has a Master’s degree in English from Western Illinois University and is a lecturer in the English department at Seattle University, teaching core seminars in writing and literature. She is a featured writer in the 2010 Jack Straw Writers Program.
