School and Teacher Programs
The first 500 teachers to arrive on October 16 get a "sneak peek" of the Picasso exhibition for free! "Sneak peek" tickets will be distributed outside of the 1st and University Street entrance (near the Hammering Man sculpture) starting at 8:30 am on a first-come, first-served basis. Teachers are welcome to bring family members to the "sneak peek." All individuals accompanying teachers must get a timed ticket to enter the galleries; people 13 and over can purchase timed tickets at the admissions desk. Children 12 and under are always free at SAM. Viewing hours for the free tickets are 9–10 am. Following the "sneak peek" tickets can be purchased for gallery admission during regular museum hours (10 am–5 pm). Teachers must present valid school ID to take advantage of this opportunity. Teachers and families are invited to enjoy SAM's Picasso Community Day, featuring fun FREE activities like art making, live performances, kid friendly tours and resources from community and educational organizations. Let us know that you are planning to come and receive program updates by registering in advance. Please note, registering does not guarantee free entrance to the Picasso exhibition. Teachers looking for a Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris-related professional development opportunity are invited to register for a workshop titled Picasso: Eyes on the World on October 16, 2010 presented by SAM in partnership with the World Affairs Council's Global Classroom Program. SAM is also presenting a second educator workshop titled Perspectives on Picasso: Concepts for the Classroom on October 23, 2010. All teachers registered for this workshop will receive a ticket to view the exhibition.
