How can a country’s history impact an artist’s creativity? How is personal expression shaped by politics? How can visual expression inspire creative and analytic writing? Explore these questions and more at a special Thursday evening session of SAM’s annual Writing About Art Educator Workshop focused on the life and art of contemporary Chinese painter Wang Huaiqing. Born in 1944 in Beijing, Wang’s work spans from propaganda posters to explosive abstract paintings, all which demonstrate a unique perspective on his place and time. Inspired by the Wang Huaiqing: A Painter’s Painter in Contemporary China exhibition, educators will participate in gallery tours, share their own creative writing responses and learn techniques for the classroom that reflect current best practices. Workshop participants will receive teaching materials, three Washington State Clock Hours and a light dinner. Please note the date for this workshop is now Thursday, February 24th.
