Stéphane Guégan, Curator at Musée d’Orsay, Paris, takes a fresh and inspired look at the relationship between Paul Gauguin and Polynesia. Drawing on the sources scholars have always used, Guégan’s analysis avoids clichés to challenge the usual vision of the painter and achieve a new understanding of the subject.
