SAM Talks
There are few places that evoke the image of paradise in the Western imagination as much as Tahiti. Why has Tahiti, of all the islands in the Pacific, come to fill this niche? Anthropologist Miriam Kahn will talk about the historical context of this phenomenon, the role Gauguin played in both using and creating the image of Tahiti, and how his artwork continues to influence Tahitians and life in Tahiti today.
Admission is free to members and adults over the age of 62 on the first Friday of every month. For other visitors, this lecture is free with museum admission. Check out SAM on Twitter and
