SAM Tours
My Favorite Things tours bring some of the most opinionated and fascinating artists, cultural producers and community figures into the galleries to discuss their favorite works of art. This week's tour features a discussion of Theaster Gates: The Listening Room with Alan Maskin, principal architect at Olson Kundig Architects. Alan Maskin is a partner at Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects, and is co-director of [storefront] Olson Kundig, the firm’s experimental workspace for pro-bono and community related projects. Alan will discuss Record Store, the “listening room” installation at [storefront] that his firm designed with Sandra Jackson Dumont of the Seattle Art Museum. The installation served as a satellite extension to the Theaster Gates exhibit on view at SAM Downtown. Alan will share images from the installation and discuss aspects of Gates’ urban works that can serve as inspiration for cultural interventions in unexpected places.
Free with museum admission. Tour meets at the top of the escalator in the third floor galleries. Check out SAM on Twitter and
