Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), 35 mm, 132 min.

In the historical record, on which Mutiny on the Bounty is based, the real Captain Bligh blamed “the allure of Tahiti” for the rebellion of his crew. In the film Bligh (Charles Laughton) personifies greedy colonial exploitation, while mutineer Fletcher Christian (Clark Gable) sees the English as “invaders” plundering a pristine world, and he embraces the islanders body and soul.
