Teaching Through Art: Gauguin & Polynesia
Session Two
February 9, 2012
5–8 pm
Arnold Board Room (entire)

Inspired by the exhibition Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise, participants in this course will develop curriculum for their own classroom based on the work and life of French artist Paul Gauguin and the peoples of Polynesia.

This course focuses on instructional practice for pre-service or practicing teachers and is an intensive introduction to this special exhibition as well as an opportunity to learn about the Seattle Art Museum School + Educator Program’s pedagogy and resources.

Participants will learn directly from curators, SAM staff and other experts as well as their fellow educators and colleagues. This course is divided into six sessions, all held at either SAM Downtown or the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

Thursday, February 9, 5–8 pm, Seattle Art Museum
Attend the educator preview at SAM Downtown and receive free resources, materials and entrance to the exhibition. Participants will also attend the SAM Talks program Gauguin and Polynesia: A Conversation given by local scholars and curators. This is the participants’ first opportunity to view the exhibition and begin research for the final class project.
