Music of Remembrance "Sparks of Glory" Concert
April 21, 2012
2–3:30 pm
Plestcheeff Auditorium

This eye-opening concert-with-commentary explores the musical legacy of the Holocaust, along with new chamber music composed in response to the Holocaust, performed by some of the area's leading chamber musicians.

Music of Remembrance (MOR) Artistic Director Mina Miller—an international speaker on musicians' spiritual resistance during the Holocaust and a concert pianist— uses examples from the exhibit Gauguin and Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise to examine non-Western influences in fascinating music works by three composers who met tragic fates at Nazi hands: Gideon Klein's Fantasy and Fugue for String Quartet, Pavel Haas's Four Songs on Chinese Poetry and Erwin Schulhoff's Five Pieces for String Quartet.

The MOR Ensemble features musicians Mara Finkelstein, cello; Susan Gulkis Assadi, viola; Leonid Keylin, violin; Mina Miller, piano; and Mikhail Shmidt, violin.

Free and open to the public.
