‘Saffron Revolution’ protests in Myanmar in 2007 had Buddhist monks in the forefront, and were a grim reminder of 1988, when Buddhist monks joined students in huge and violent protests. Anthropologist Juliane Schober speaks on Buddhist monks’ involvement in Burmese politics in history and during recent times.
