SAM Talks
The Great Depression, fascism in Europe, America’s entry into world war—the dark forces that changed the western world forever in the decade from 1930 to 1940—upended America’s art establishment as artists channeled moral outrage into a new sense of social purpose. Join Patricia Junker, Ann M. Barwick Curator of American Art, for a discussion of Morality Tales: American Art and Social Protest, which features works from SAM’s collection by socially and politically engaged artists, including Mervin Jules and Joseph Hirsch, Abe Blashko, Rudolph Zallinger and Alton Pickens. Following this program, the Volunteer Association will host their annual holiday tea for the attendees.
Admission is free to members and adults over the age of 62 on the first Friday of every month. For other visitors, this lecture is free with museum admission. Check out SAM on Twitter and
